Rotary Vacuum Drum Filter

  Rotary Vacuum Drum Filter

We Manufacture a wide range of Continuous Vacuum Filters more Popularly known as Rotary Vacuum Drum Filters (RVDF). Rotary Vacuum Drum Filter are designed to handle the broadest range of slurries of any Filter offering De-watering, washing or Clarification Applications or a combination of two. In order to minimize energy consumption, size requirements and overall cost, Feed slurry should be concentrated as much as possible prior to Filtration by RVDF.

In many Industrial Cases Pre-Treatment by Flocculation, Thickening, Floatation and Hydro-cyclones this also prevents Media Blinding and Improves Production Rate.

Continuous Vacuum Drum Filters / RVDF allows more complete separation of solids from liquids then other mechanical de-watering filters as vacuum filters are not dependent on specific gravity differentials for Clarity. Further these filters are provided with inbuilt slow speed swinging type agitator to avoid probable settling of solids in the Filter Trough.

However it requires a lot of experience and test work to check the filterability of the slurry and the facilities for such experiments are available at our works. We also have a pilot scale RVDF setup to check Filterability of actual slurry at site conditions. Rotary Vacuum Drum can be done at a very reasonable cost before proceeding with ordering a bigger unit.

The most profound advantage of using RVDF for Solid-Liquid separation is that it is a continous process and calls for least breakdown or downtime after first successful installation. The Moisture content of the cake greatly varies with the substance properties and the clarity of filtrate can always kept within required range with suitable selection of Filter Media.

The unit is compact for shipment, slow speed for operation, widely used in industry thus operator skill required is bare minimum and capable of 24x7 service in a very broad spectrum of Industries requiring Solid-Liquid Separation.

Drum Filters are preferred over Disc Filters for filtration of Finer solids; further very fine solids are filtered using Pre-Coat Drum Filters.

Sizes : Drum Filters are available in the Sizes from 1.5’ Dia. To 13-6” Dia. And Lengths ranging from 2’ Lg. To 36’ Long.

Drum Filter Discharge Types

Drum Filter Discharge Types

Scraper Discharge is the most common drum filter discharge. After dewatering, the cake is removed from the filter cloth by a scraper blade just prior to the re-submergence of the drum. The scraper serves mainly as a deflector to direct the cake, dislodged by an air blowback, into the discharge chute.

Roll Discharge is especially good for thin, sticky cakes which have the unique property of sticking to themselves. The filter cake on the drum is pressed against a discharge roll packed with filter cake so that the thin cake is pulled or peeled from the drum. Solids are removed from the discharge roll with a knife blade.

String Discharge best applies to thin cakes and materials that are unstable and if disturbed too much will change from a solid to a liquid. Most generally applied in the starch and pharmaceutical industries, it is a system of endless strings or wires spaced about 0.5 inches apart that pass around the filter drum but are separated tangentially from the drum at the point of cake discharge. The strings return to the drum surface guided by two rollers with the cake separating from the strings as they pass over the rollers.

Belt Discharge offers the ability to discharge filter cakes and wash both sides of the filter cloth with each drum rotation. Westech Belt Discharge Drum Filters offer the ability to discharge filter cakes and wash the filter media with each drum rotation. Many applications using this type of filter produce thin, sticky and wet filter cakes which are not easily discharged without the aid of a discharge roll.

Some of the other common applications for our range of filters are:
-Filtration of liquid sugar and molasses

-Processing and purification of circulating systems for different oils, grinding agents and coolants

-Clarification of fruit juices in food processing

-Purification of herbicides and insecticides

-Recovery of liquids from brewery wastes

-Polishing applications in metallurgical processing

Precoat Drum Filters

Precoat Drum Filters

Rotary Drum Precoat Filter are best applied to processes which have relatively low concentrations of solids or produce filter cakes which effectively blind the filter media. The Rotary Drum Precoat Filter is used to polish solutions having traces of contaminating insolubles. To polish the solution the drum deck is precoated with a medium of a known permeability and particle size that retains the fines and produces a clear filtrate.

The following materials are used to form the precoat bed:

Diatomaceous Earth (or Diatomite) consisting of siliceous skeletal remains of tiny aquatic unicellular plants.

Perlite consisting of glassy crushed and heat-expanded rock from volcanic origin.

Cellulose consisting of fibrous light weight and ash less paper like medium.

Special ground wood is becoming popular in recent years since it is combustible and reduces the high cost of disposal. There are nowadays manufacturers that grind, wash and classify special timber to permeabilities which can suit a wide range of applications.
