PURPOSE           

Lime Slaker is installed for Causticizing purpose. Following reactions take place in Drum Slaker.

CaO    H2O  =     Ca(OH)2

Na2CO3 Ca(OH)2   =  2NaOH    CaCO3

Drum Slaker consists of a rotating, generally horizontal cylindrical vessel; lime and green liquor enter at one end and leave at the other end after slaking. A Trommel screen is installed at the exit to catch large oversize pebbles and grits. (60% Green liquor enters at feed end and 40% at the discharge end through a splitter box).

Baffles are provided inside the Drum Slaker to ensure proper chemical reactions with the desired retention time.

Drum Slaker is normally shop assembled and running trial is taken in the shop. The Drum Slaker is shipped in the following parts: 

1. Drum completely assembled with gear ring and riding rings.

2. 2 Nos. Roller base frames duly assembled with rollers.

3. 1 No. Drive base frame duly assembled with motor.

4. 1 No. Trommel screen.

5. 1 No. Steam Hood 

Further the Slaked Liquor draining through Trommel screen is taken to a Rake Classifier Trough for De-gritting; overflow of this system is then taken to Paddle Agitated Tank of sufficient volume ensuring uniform distribution of lime in the solution.

Most wide applications are in Pulp & Paper Industry, High Lime ETP, Alumina Industry etc.

Lime slaker is divided into two sections, the Mixer or slaking compartment and the cleaning or degritting compartment. The former consists of a cylindrical tank with a motor driven Mixer; the later is typical Classifier consisting of a sloping rectangular rake. The Mixer compartment cover is arranged with separate openings for the solid material and green liquor used for slaking. It also has a large opening for a vent stack. The cleaning section is attached to the Mixer tank and connection between the two compartments and a smaller opening higher up. An overflow launder is provided in the Classifier compartment for removal of the slaked lime. The flow from the launder may be taken off from either side of the tank; the outlet connection not used, being blanked off with a blind flange. Openings are provided in the cover and at the “heel” of the cleaning compartment for additional green liquor feed. Clean out and drain openings are also provided at the “heel” of the compartment.

The Unit is more in practice for low quantity & superior quality calcined lime feed rates from 0.5 TPH to 20 TPH and as described above the unit is compact consisting of all 3 stages of standard lime slaking requirements in one unit.
